In Feb 2018, Goldman Sachs and HKBN hosted John Wood for the launch of his new book “Purpose Incorporated – Turning Cause into your Competitive Advantage” at the Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong. In attendance were over 400 Friends of Goldman Sachs and HKBN senior executives from a wide range of industries who were all inspired to rethink how we can make a more purposeful impact in the way we run our companies. On the night, together with a big-hearted 1-to-1 matching donation by Carl Huttenlocher, Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer of Myriad Asset Management, we raised over US$220,000, which helped fund the construction of 11 libraries, 5 in India and 6 in Vietnam. Today, just 15 months later, these 11 libraries are up and running, changing the lives of the children who frequent them.
John added, “Room to Read has always pursued a world where no child can ever be told they are born in the wrong place at the wrong time, and will therefore not gain the lifelong gift of education. These 11 libraries take us another step towards that ambitious goal line. Together we can solve the global challenge of illiteracy — in our lifetime.”
