  Dear Friends of HKBN

Reshaping the Business Rulebook with Purpose and 11 Libraries Pledged

Companies don’t have to be solely about making money. Like Room to Read’s (a charity dedicated to improving literacy worldwide and girls education) Founder John Wood, we at HKBN believe earning profits can be better pursued when a difference-making PURPOSE becomes part of the equation.

Joined by over 400 like-minded senior executives from Hong Kong, we recently co-organised a book launch-cum-charity fundraiser with Goldman Sachs featuring John’s latest work, Purpose, Incorporated: Turning Cause Into Your Competitive Advantage. Expounding what’s possible when a private-sector brain is combined with a non-profit heart (via insights from his book), as well as personal epiphanies from helping over 12 million children, John united and challenged all our invited guests with heaps of inspiration. At HKBN, our corporate PURPOSE is to “Make our Hong Kong a Better Place to Live”, and we believe that having PURPOSE generates PASSION and then PURPOSE + PASSION = PROFITS.

Amazingly, as a result of our charity event, we far exceeded John’s original target of generating 10 libraries in the 1st year of the book’s release. A total of about US$222,000 or 11 libraries was pledged (includes a generous 1-to-1 matching donation by Carl Huttenlocher, Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer of Myriad Asset Management and Room to Read board member, for every dollar contributed)!

If you would like to receive a signed complimentary copy of John’s book, click here (deadline for registration is 28 February; availability on a first-come, first-served basis).
