HKBN Partners with Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute to Advance Technology Innovation and Accelerate AI Development 

HKBNES has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute (FNII) to leverage the China Environment for Network Innovations (CENI) and establish a collaborative innovation platform for accelerating the development and application of future network technologies.

CENI is the Mainland’s first major national science and technology infrastructure in the network and information sector. It currently covers 40 major cities across the country, providing ultra-high-speed and wide-area experimental capabilities. As the nation’s premier large-scale network innovation platform, CENI’s dedicated testing environment – directly connected to its Nanjing control centre – supports R&D in next-generation internet technologies, cybersecurity, industrial IoT, and other critical areas, driving both industrial collaboration and technological advancement.

Last week, Dr. Denis Yip, our President and Group Chief Operating Officer, attended the “CENI-based Cross-Border Data Flow Pilot and Demonstration Co-Creation Initiative Launch Ceremony”. At the event, he announced that HKBN had completed the second phase of testing and established a direct interconnection with CENI through the China (Qianhai) Internet Exchange, laying the groundwork for facilitating cross-border data flow.

This strategic collaboration will leverage the strengths of both organisations under the following framework:

(1) Fostering Collaboration in Tech Innovation Ecosystem and Supporting National Network Development

• Facilitate collaboration between FNII and Hong Kong universities and research institutions in areas such as network communications, big data, AI, and cybersecurity.

• Through CENI and HKBN InnoTech Ecosystem Alliance (iTEA), connect higher education institutions, research organisations, and tech enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Jiangsu, and other regions to share digital resources.

(2) Advancing Future Network Infrastructure Development and Facilitating Cross-Border Data Flow

• Explore extending CENI nodes to HKBN Enterprise Solutions’s network infrastructure.

• Enhance the security and efficiency of cross-border data transmission to support Mainland enterprises in expanding globally.

(3) Exploring “Hong Kong Data, Western Computing” (港數西算) for Sustainable AI Development

• Encourage Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem to leverage Western China’s computing resources for high-efficiency, intelligent, and low-latency data transmission.

• Accelerate high-performance and sustainable AI development in Hong Kong by utilising the nation’s robust computing power.
