Can profit-making and social-driven purpose co-exist?

We're all in when it comes to pursuing both corporate purpose and profit. This commitment to make profit and do better for society stems from our longstanding core purpose of "Make our Hong Kong a Better Place to Live". This year in late January – joined by over 400 corporate clients, business partners and HKBN Talents – we collaborated with Goldman Sachs for a book launch cum charity fundraiser in Hong Kong featuring Purpose, Incorporated – Turning Cause Into Your Competitive Advantage, the latest book by NGO Room to Read's Founder John Wood to explain the symbiotic relationship between purpose and profit to the business community. More than ever, purpose is becoming a new competitive advantage for companies to win the war for customers and talent. Companies can gain by reviewing how their company policies and business directions align with purpose. During the event, a total of about US$220,000 was pledged, enough to set up 11 libraries for impoverished children around the world. Click here to see highlights of the event.

Former Microsoft executive John Wood left Microsoft at the age of 35 to establish Room to Read, an NGO which aims to provide education opportunities for impoverished children around the world. Since inception, the organisation has spent over HK$3.5 billion to help over 12 million children pursue their dreams of education.
