Going above and beyond for students

Ivy Yip remembers the time she first entered Man Kiu Association Primary School several years ago: there were leaks, paint on the ceiling was peeling; the entire school was in terrible condition. She still vividly recalls the shock of that encounter. But rather than settle with what had been handed to her, Ivy took up the challenge to start improvements, all because of her passion for education, her love for the students and her unyielding #StartfromLimit spirit.

"Not all schools can be aptly supported by the resources that are available. As an educator, I think we should try to break through the constraints, not only to improve the learning environment for students, but also to demonstrate the importance of having a fearless heart and the spirit to never surrender,” Ivy says. Full of dogged determination, Ivy believes that “limits are just the beginning”. She made use of her networking skills and energetically leveraged the power of media and the private sector to raise funds for the school.

Amongst the many changes triggered by her work was the “e-Reading Corner Project”, funded by HKBN and HKBN Talent CSI Fund. By revamping the library with tablets and e-books, the project pulled the school out of the past and into the future, making it fun again to read and learn.

Apart from Ivy, there are still numerous passionate, limit-redefining individuals from Hong Kong hard at work in their own fields. Like what HKBN is doing for the telecom industry, they are breaking norms to make our Hong Kong a better place to live with the #StartfromLimit spirit.
