Dear Friends of HKBN

HKBN Growth Mode Part 1 of 3: Gladly Promoting Talents Based on a Different Criteria

In case you’re wondering why so many promotions despite such unprecedentedly challenging circumstances – in times of crisis there is opportunity. At HKBN, this means there will be entirely new commercial opportunities for us to help our customers become digitally-empowered. And so, we’re voraciously hungry to meet such demand by finding and promoting elite Talents who stood out not just for outstanding job or sales KPIs, but much more so for their leadership strengths. This month, we just promoted 84 Talents from Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia.

Unlike most companies, meeting KPI and sales targets only scratches the surface of what we seek. Delving deeper, the aim of our unique promotion assessment process identifies exceptional Talents based on attributes like leading disruption, empowerment and purposeful leadership.

Identifying leaders for promotion starts with top performing Talents who have shined through a range of attributes (exhibiting qualities like empowerment, leading disruption, and purpose) mirroring our purposeful profit vision. In short, merely exceeding targets will get Talents paid handsomely via commission or year-end bonuses, but it doesn’t guarantee advancement at HKBN. For that to happen, we’ve embraced a highly transparent process wherein nominated Talents are asked to undergo an assessment from 2 unrelated senior executives. We’ve done this to ensure bias is removed, and importantly, that our promoted Talents truly possess the mindset qualities to accelerate our competitive inertia in a changing digital world.

“As our company continues to expand rapidly, opportunities are abound and we’re very flexible to make space for Talents to grow and excel. To recognise outstanding Talents, we’re rewarding those who live and truly exemplify our core values. Through our performance-based sports team culture, “eliteness” plays a fundamental role in driving growth of our business and capabilities!”
Janet Yeung, our Co-Owner and Director – Talent Engagement

See what our newly promoted Talents are saying:

“I’ve been a champion of our Barter & Bundle project, a bold new win-win proposition which has proven to be extremely beneficial for retail clients. As developing our business in new areas remains a priority, I’ve also taken the lead to foster strategic joint venture alliances with companies in Hong Kong and mainland China. I believe my growth mindset is one of my greatest weapons to achieving different objectives in life and in business.”
Mingo Tsang, Co-Owner & newly promoted Director – Retail & Strategic Projects

“During the coronavirus outbreak, our team played a key role in quickly enabling HKBN Talents to work remotely and efficiently from home. As a coordinator between management and our front-line Talents, I always give my all, putting myself in others’ shoes and encouraging the team to optimise the use of resources and think big. Looking ahead, I am eager to learn more about human resources management as IT professionals should not only focus on technical expertise.”
Charlie Ng, newly promoted Officer, Information Technology

“It was my pleasure to lead HKBN’s #ToughTimesTogether – “Career Kickstarter for Graduates” programme, an initiative created to help 100 university graduates. As a project lead, I’ve learned that it’s all about the attitude and mentality. You need to be bold to make decisions and take calculated risks; go the extra-mile to multitask and drive for other teams to get things done!”
Flora Lau, Co-Owner and newly promoted Senior Officer – Talent Management
