Skin-in-the-game to Supercharge our Beyond-HK Business as One Silo-less Unit

What's the best way to unleash an operation's full potential across 4 different regions? Shortly after acquiring regional technology solutions leader JOS, we challenged our 'Beyond-HK' management team (as part of integrating Singapore, Malaysia, mainland China and Macau) to drastically improve their AFF (Adjusted Free Cash Flow) contribution to our Group. Rather than just hope for the best, we're ensuring headway through a tried and tested HKBN method – skin-in-the-game pain/GAIN Co-Ownership from our Talents.

Consistent with HKBN's recent Co-Ownership 3 Plus scheme, our Beyond-HK pain/GAIN Co-Ownership programme invites eligible Talents to put their skin-in-the-game by committing 2 - 24 months of salary upfront. Hit or exceed the cumulative AFF target by August 2021, participants will GAIN a multiple of their investment, but fall short of the cumulative AFF target, all their investments will go to a charity of their choice. We have intentionally set one common cumulative AFF goal, rather than separate regional targets, to ensure outstanding silo-less performance from Talents across the 4 different regions. Out of ~1,500 total Talents in our Beyond-HK presence, 72 supervisor and above have joined the pain/GAIN, investing their family savings in our pain/GAIN Co-Ownership programme!

Excitedly, this single silo-less cumulative AFF target gives us unstoppable LUCA (Legal Unfair Competitive Advantage) to capture bigger and more diverse projects throughout the region, as we focus our telecommunications + ICT expertise on fintech, healthcare and high-tech manufacturing sector opportunities, which all combines into our Transformation as a Service (TaaS) offering.

Almira Chan, our Co-Owner and Chief Strategy Officer, who has taken on the role as head of Beyond-HK said, "For the first time, the technology leadership capabilities of our HKBN JOS Talents across the regional will now come together to be fully unleashed to grow beyond boundaries. We are ready to deliver disruptive value to regional customers."

Sharing insights as a new pain/GAIN participant, Nelson Chan, our Co-Owner and Managing Director – HKBN JOS China added, "This unique risk/reward approach will encourage us to think outside the box to achieve far greater results as one entity. By committing to this programme, Talents across 4 regions are putting our skin-in-game together as to achieve significant growth."

As a veteran of the pain/GAIN programme, Ben Yeung, our Co-Owner and Chief Commercial Officer – Business Development & Partnership said, "In the past 3 years, I've participated in 4 pain/GAIN programmes, 3 of which have already delivered GAINS whilst one is still in progress. Having skin-in-the-game pushed us like nothing else, because failure was not an option.”
