HKBN Becomes Asia's First Telco to Win a Special Achievement in GIS Award

We are proud to announce that we have been conferred with the SAG Award (Special Achievement in Geographic Information System) from US-based Esri, a world leader in GIS technology. HKBN was selected from over 100,000 eligible candidates to become Asia's first telco to win the distinguished award. In making the award, Esri identified HKBN’s commitment to innovative application of technology, data collection and geospatial information visualization that enhances the reliability and diagnostics for its telecommunications fibre network.

Esri founder and President, Jack Dangermond said, “The SAG Awards serve a great purpose in recognising best practices for organisations implementing technology to change the world.”

As a company with a long tradition for ground-breaking innovation (in 2004, HKBN built the world's largest Metro Ethernet network in the world; in 2005, HKBN became Hong Kong's first ISP to deliver 1,000Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home service), HKBN's latest breakthrough redefines optic fibre network steadiness and performance. Through the unique use of Remote Fibre Monitoring System, our award-winning approach largely shortens the time needed, from the usual several hours to just 3 minutes or less, to pinpoint the exact location of a network failure, and ultimately reduces the mean time to repair (MTTR).

HKBN Chief Technology Officer and Co-Owner, Gary McLaren said, “As a telco guided by a commitment to go that extra mile for customers, we are proud to be the first telco in Asia to win the SAG Award . Our Remote Fibre Monitoring System represents a new paradigm in network fault detection, repair and preventative maintenance. In simple terms, this breakthrough means our customers in both enterprise and residential markets can enjoy our broadband services with cutting-edge reliability and stability.”
