We’re excited to announce
that Gary McLaren has been appointed as HKBN’s Chief Technology
Officer. Gary brings nearly three decades of technology and business
leadership. He will be part of HKBN’s Management Committee
orchestrating the company’s long-term growth plan.
"With great pleasure we welcome Gary into the HKBN family. He is a
strong leader with a truly global perspective. His profound experience
across innovative technologies, strategic planning and operations,
together with his outside-in business approach, will help us soar to
new heights," said our CEO William. |

In his most recent role,
Gary served as Chief Technology Officer of Australia’s NBN Co and was a
founding member of its Executive Committee, responsible for developing
and implementing architecture, design and integration of network
technologies for the country’s national broadband network. With a
proven track record of transforming innovation into success, Gary is
widely respected for his leadership in spearheading major strategy and
technical direction at a number of remarkable companies in Australia
and Singapore, which include mobile payment start-up leader Utiba Pte
Ltd, competitive local exchange carrier Request DSL, Siemens and
Telstra. |

In his new role, Gary will
lead HKBN’s technology development as the company continues to grow its
substantial fibre optic network and expand the range of innovative
broadband products and services delivered to customers.
“Hong Kong is at the top of the world rankings for high speed broadband
network delivery. I look forward to working in this highly competitive
market and demonstrate how investments in these networks will deliver
significant benefits to societies that are willing to make such long
term commitments,” said Gary.
As a preeminent expert in communication technology, mobile payment
and business IT services, Gary’s insightful commentaries often feature
across a variety of media, some of which can be read at www.businessspectator.com.au/contributor/gary-mclaren,
or through his blog at www.mclarenwilliams.com.au
and Twitter account @gmclwill.
Outside of work Gary is an avid traveller and is passionate about road
cycling. Among his biking accomplishments, he has completed the 3
Peaks, a 235km long ride touted as Australia’s equivalent to a Tour de
France race, on three separate occasions. Gary is happily married with
two independent daughters. He graduated with first class honours in
Engineering and holds a Bachelor Degree in Law from University of
Melbourne. |

Along with this exciting
appointment, we bid farewell to long-serving CTO Sui Lun Lo, who, after
spending his entire career in the telecom industry, has chosen to take
a break and explore a new direction in life.
“As the first employee of HKBN, I am proud to have witnessed HKBN’s
growth and success over the past 16 years, as well as the contributions
we’ve made to Hong Kong in terms of our fibre network infrastructure
and the world-leading Internet connection speeds,” said Sui Lun Lo, who
everyone inside HKBN respectfully refers to as Lo Sir. |
